Friday, February 21st, 2020, the LAEDC, Center for a Competitive Workforce and the LA Regional Directors of Employer Engagement will be convening a Regional Industry Advisory meeting around the future of global trade and logistics talent. This is a closed meeting for college faculty.

Hosted by The Port of Los Angeles, the invite is exclusively faculty and members of all 19 Los Angeles Community Colleges and will convene top supply chain and logistic employers in the region.
This meeting will serve to guide community colleges in their curriculum development and strengthen the community colleges’ position as the leading source of talent.

Gabriel Shweiri is President and CEO of BGI Worldwide Logistics. A global logistics and transportation provider that established in 1999. His professional career began directly out of graduate school working for one of the largest US based freight forwarding companies. Gaining a breadth of experience by taking positions with several companies, Gabriel built on his experience in global management as well as startup operations. His experiences took him through sales, operations, technology, accounting, management and marketing as well as the functional areas of import, export, surface, air and ocean logistics. Gabriel has extensive travel experience in North America, Europe, Asia and the South Pacific, traveling to coordinate global operations and negotiate contracts.
Gabriel is currently Chair of the Global Business & Entrepreneurship department at Santa Ana College, and has been an instructor for more than 20 years. He has taught International Logistics, International Finance, Management, Marketing and Entrepreneurship. He was part of the advisory board for the SAC International Business degree and certificate programs as the program was being developed. He holds the CGBP designation and is a certified CGBP trainer at Santa Ana College.
Gabriel is currently on the board of governors of NASBITE International and has served as a member if its executive committee. Gabriel earned his MIM from Thunderbird and his Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs from the George Washington University in Washington, DC.
Jessica has over 20 years of experience building innovative and efficient HR practices for Safeway, Michael Kors, Sysco and Nautilus Intl; all companies with robust supply chains. Her expertise spans employee relations, labor relations, talent planning, workforce analytics, management development, employee engagement initiatives and diversity management. Known for her passion for process improvement, she brings a level of strategic insight, project management and relationship building to her work in supporting key initiatives.
Jessica has held a variety of HR positions supporting retail and wholesale distribution operations including full pallet, pick-pack, e-commerce, and stevedoring. She received her BA from UCLA in Political Science and is a graduate of the USC Food Industry Management Program. She also received her SHRM-CP designation from the Society of Human Resources Management and her PHR designation from the HR Certification Institute in 2010.
